Alto das Fadas is located near to the villages of Belmonte and Sortelha in the hills of center east Portugal near to the Spanish border.
The exact location of the sanctuary will be revealed (including exact co-ordinates, Google map link) in the joining email for an event.
Public Transport
Via Lisbon – the simplest way
- Fly to Lisbon
- Take the bus to Belmonte (Ginjal) or Sabugal (Mon, Weds, Fri only)
- Arrange to be picked up
Via Porto – if you would like to see the sights of historic Porto
- Fly to Porto
- Take the bus to Guarda
- Take the bus to Sabugal
- Arrange to be picked up
Via Madrid – flights can be a lot cheaper in peak season
- Fly to Madrid
- Take a Flixbus to Guarda
- Take the bus to Sabugal
- Arrange to be picked up
Train – if you don’t like to go by bus
Yes Portugal has an amazing train system so if you don’t want to take a bus to Guarda you can take a train. They do take longer, as the route is not so direct. Look up the train times.

Taxi
So you missed your pickup? Never fear, here are some taxi services which we have used.
If you are in Guarda there is an English speaking taxi driver based at the bus station who knows where the sanctuary is. Cost is around €40. Antonio Gamboa 351 963 252 453

Time Difference
Portugal has the same time as the UK – so one hour before Central European Time (CET). Please note that Spain uses CET.
